What's In The Virtual Tasting Kit?
The Virtual Tasting Kit has 12g of 5 different coffees pre-weighed for the tasting, 5 cups, a Tasting Form and Flavor Wheel, along with a grind sample, so you can be confident that your grinder is calibrated correctly before we start (pre-ground option also available).
We'll also send five x 2 oz bags of each of the coffees so you can enjoy after the tasting!
All you need at home is a coffee grinder, a kettle (1.5 L), two spoons per participant and two extra cups. No coffee maker required!
FAQ
Can I schedule a session if I don't have a grinder?
We highly recommend whole bean for an optimal tasting experience, but if you don't have access to a grinder, we can ship you the coffees ground.
Do I need a scale to participate?
The coffees come in pre-weighed pouches, and the cups are just the right size for the amount of water needed, so no scale is required.
What if my shipment doesn't arrive?
We know that shipments can get delayed, especially during this pandemic, so we monitor tracking info and will alert you if we think the package won't get to you in time so you're able to reschedule. For more info, see this article.
Should I grind the coffees before the session?
We recommend grinding about 5 minutes before the session, but no sooner than that. If you have a hand grinder, it may take a few extra minutes.
What's the right grind size for the tasting?
The best grind size for this type of tasting is medium - what you'd use for a pour over or electric drip. It should look a little finer than sea salt.
I need my coffee ground. When purchasing my Box, what grind size should I choose?
The "Drip" or Medium grind is perfect for the tasting.
Can another person Experience along with me using the same kit?
Yes! We include 2 Tasting Forms in each kit for 2 people (per screen). More people can be added by copying the form if needed.
Can we also learn about pour-over brewing?
This session is a modified version of the professional cupping style of tasting. Since there’s multiple steps involved, unfortunately, there isn't enough time for a brew session.
When will you send the Virtual Tasting Box?
We'll ship it about a week before your scheduled time, so that all households receive fresh coffee just in time for the tasting (with a little bit of buffer). We'll share tracking information as soon as it's shipped.
I want to do this, but none of the times available work for me. Can I request another day/time that is not listed?

Can I do this one-on-one (1 household)?
Yes, absolutely!
Can I reschedule if the time no longer works?
Yes, we know things happen and schedules change! You can reschedule up to 12 hours before the session (there is a link to change the appointment in your confirmation e-mail). However, please bear in mind that we have limited slots available and would appreciate as much advance notice as possible for any changes.
Is this available internationally?
Unfortunately, this is only available for U.S.-based households at this time.
What's the difference between this tasting and the Saturday Zoom tastings?
The weekly Saturday tasting is 60 minutes as opposed to 90 for this Private Tasting, and interaction with your host is more limited. The Private tasting is more intimate, with plenty of time to ask questions and talk coffee. Also, the weekly tasting is designed around our Voyager Box, and you use your own mugs to brew into and Experience out of. For the Private Virtual Tasting, we ship you the coffees, tasting forms and cups.
Does my grind need to exactly match the Sample Grind Size?
This is a very forgiving, gentle way to make coffee. As long as you're as close as you can get, it'll work great!
